Look around your area. Scout for available raw materials. There are many other ways of increasing your income even while at home. Just be creative, resourceful and diligent enough to explore them.

1. GARDENING – You don’t have to be an agriculture graduate to engage in planting vegetables or propagating ornamental plants. Grow vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, and tomatoes in your backyard. In that manner, you don’t have to buy vegetables for your table use. That saves, you money. And is not saving a form of earning, too? If you have more than enough for home consumption, sell your vegetables to your neighbors. They will certainly appreciate and buy fresh, newly harvested vegetables. 2. GATHER DRIFTWOOD – Speaking of ornaments, you can also increase your income by gathering driftwood near rivers and ponds or stumps in the forests or in farms where many trees abound. These are commonly used in decorating indoor and outdoor rock gardens. Driftwood and stumps command high prices. There is a woman in Orlando, Florida who sells one piece of stump, with some vines clinging to it, at a price as high as two hundred dollars. You don’t need a capital in this home industry. Just capitalize on your diligence, resourcefulness, creativity, and drops of sweat.

3. MAKE BAMBOO AND COCONUT CRAFTS – Are you living in a community where coconut trees and bamboo plants are plentiful? If you are, then turn coconuts and bamboos into cash. Out of coconuts, you can make several articles such as coconut shell bank, ashtray, handbags and many others. You can sell them through gift shops and other stores. Midribs of coconut leaves can also be made into beautiful fruit trays and placemats.

For acquisition of know-how in making these items, you can seek the help of industrial arts teachers and vocational education instructors in schools near your place or through the internet. Or better still, invite vocational teachers to hold crash training programs in your community and teach you various trades and handicrafts. Your town mates will appreciate you for that. They surely know, and are willing to teach you, the rudiments of the trade. Like coconuts, bamboos are also well-rounded materials. With simple hand tools, you can make bamboo banks, ash trays, flower vases, fans, laminated handbags, tables and chairs. Another product, called bamboo chimes, is very much appreciated. It emits beautiful sounds as swayed by the wind. It is placed near doors and windows.
